</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><strong>About my outfit:</strong> I see bloggers here and there posting "weekend looks" and I just love the idea of showcasing a more relaxed, casual version of your everyday style. However, I work all weekend. Luckily, working at a consignment store, we don't have much of a "work uniform" so I can be as casual or as dressy as I like, provided I look relatively fashionable...or at least put-together! For my version of "weekend wear" I wanted to be comfortable in jeans and a tribal crop-top. I dressed it up a little with neutral sandal-heels and brought out the orange with my vintage purse. The necklace was a Christmas gift from <a href="http://somethingoldmeetssomethingnew.blogspot.com/2011/07/my-fashionable-friends-camber.html">Camber</a> via etsy (thanks, Cam!). It's comprised of vintage pieces, featuring a watch front and see-through back. Check out a better photo:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

An all-black base seems to really make a print or color pop! The floral zippered skirt takes center stage in this look since I paired it with a black tee, tights and my favorite chunky wedge booties. Finished it off with a gray scarf tied 'round my neck. The scarf subtly combines gray with yellow in a plaid print which helps to tie in the gold accessories in my earrings and chain-strap.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

<strong>About my outfit:</strong> This is my <a href="http://somethingoldmeetssomethingnew.blogspot.com/2012/02/how-i-packed-for-arizona.html">Arizona Day 1</a> outfit (<a href="http://www.polyvore.com/arizona_day/set?id=42009174&.mid=embed-gridv-3206978&.embedder=&.referrer=http%253A%252F%252Fsomethingoldmeetssomethingnew.blogspot.com%252F">polyvore</a>). I wanted to be comfy for a day of shopping, so I wore my skinny jeans (which I love as a base to try on clothes with) and my flat boots. I layered my peachy oversized sweater over my neon plaid button-down for a pop of bright color - I think it corresponds nicely with the embroidery on my boots! I only brought 2 purses, so I carried my tan D&B across my shoulder (to keep hands free!)<br />
<br />
<br />
<div align="center"><strong>Stay tuned for more travel-worthy, layered looks!</strong></div>Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04979906134841110292noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4298302772176355727.post-85287765053644637052012-02-27T13:39:00.000-08:002012-02-27T13:39:29.883-08:00Must Love: DarbyMenswear is a trend that's been around for a little while now, and I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon. I think it's fun to add a pop of this trend through footwear - and what I'm currently digging is the <i>Darby slip-on loafer</i>. J. Crew said "inspired by a gentleman's formal dress slipper" it's part smoking-slipper, part loafer, and a whole-lotta cute!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEbDV3JuS92EIyHeEQAO3GYBCrcwhPVIA2_9PUEhlcaZzZH9eaIBLqjJyixGsOFm68F9_bvTGolwwP6oygIWrbqPqUcFmwt6nRLOI02Dpi1Lcm85PlOXmdhMd4yF5VZFfg6jfl7xx5EQs_/s1600/the-darby-loafer+j+crew+collage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEbDV3JuS92EIyHeEQAO3GYBCrcwhPVIA2_9PUEhlcaZzZH9eaIBLqjJyixGsOFm68F9_bvTGolwwP6oygIWrbqPqUcFmwt6nRLOI02Dpi1Lcm85PlOXmdhMd4yF5VZFfg6jfl7xx5EQs_/s400/the-darby-loafer+j+crew+collage.jpg" width="302" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">J. Crew had a wide variety (for a pretty penny) that included fun prints and patterns like glitter, or animal-print in real calf-hair. However, now I only see the <a href="http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/shoes/flats/PRDOVR~49078/49078.jsp">leopard-print Darby calf-hair loafers</a> on the website.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><a href="http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/index.jsp">Anthropologie</a> recently introduced an eclectic <a href="http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/category/loafers/shoes-oxford.jsp">collection</a>. Though hard to choose, these are my favorite:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img alt="Chuska Loafers" height="400" src="http://images.anthropologie.com/is/image/Anthropologie/24173312_001_b?$cat-b$" width="266" /> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div>I've been seeing them for a while around the blog-o-sphere and on <a href="http://pinterest.com/">pinterest</a>. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><b>About my outfit:</b> For running errands a couple days ago, I didn't have the time to put a lot of thought into my outfit, and I wanted to be comfortable. So, I went with an all-black base, used (my favorite) tan shade of brown as accents, and then punched it up with some funky, colorful accessories like this multicolor scarf and these fun, bold earrings. I didn't need much else to complicate my look so, with that, I was out the door!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><b><br />

I received a lot of great feedback like "roll your clothes instead of folding" and to "think layers" or "utilize accessories to dress up basic outfits" and ended up bringing some great layered-up looks. I used polyvore to help me visualize each outfit.<br />
<br />
<iframe allowtransparency="true" frameborder="no" height="486" scrolling="no" src="http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/collection?.mid=embed-gridv-3206978&_embedder=3206978&_out=embed&display=gridv&displayOptions=%7B%22withBy%22%3A0%7D&id=1309319&size=m&sort=-pop&src_action=collection" style="display: block; text-align: center;" width="486"></iframe><br />
I also jotted down notes for myself, which greatly reduced my packing time! (highly recommend this)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDp66blRZMbyXZZAfS9j772wfC22W_A9e-hK1O35bx47cojnOeHSQkes3uwvnVz1E-I3EdI3ZuBmBFODLLDW8qVuv8qqfCCkzcJyvXWp0dWI6gP0Qa2OBJnHUbZ0e1gUzELHTGSZeyDOVI/s1600/packing.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDp66blRZMbyXZZAfS9j772wfC22W_A9e-hK1O35bx47cojnOeHSQkes3uwvnVz1E-I3EdI3ZuBmBFODLLDW8qVuv8qqfCCkzcJyvXWp0dWI6gP0Qa2OBJnHUbZ0e1gUzELHTGSZeyDOVI/s400/packing.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><b>So...what did I end up with??</b></div><br />
<b>Travel Days</b> - I wore my (first and only)<i> leggings</i> on the plane with an <i><a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/155796468328906363/">oversized sweater</a>, my <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/155796468328972299/">denim shirt</a></i> which I sometimes wear as a jacket and <i>my heaviest <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/155796468328889265/">(Dex) boots</a></i>. On the way back I layered a <i>button-down</i> under my sweater but pretty much followed the same formula.<br />
<br />
<b>Day 1</b> - We did a fair amount of shopping the first the day, so I knew I wanted to be comfortable and have a good base to try clothes on. I went with my polyvore Day 2 look which consisted of <i>my comfy skinny jeans, <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/155796468328972306/">plaid button down</a>, and <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/155796468328902795/">peach sweater</a></i> layered over. I originally planned on wearing my new statement bib-necklace, but decided against as I didn't want to pull it on and off every time I tried on something. This went nicely with my embroidered (and comfortable) <i>flat boots</i>.<br />
<br />
<b>Day 2</b> - More shopping and errands warranted the same <i>skinny jeans, another button-down</i> and this time, a <i>sweater-vest</i>. I wore my <i>red Dex boots</i> with this look since I knew I'd be on my feet less. (see polyvore Day 4)<br />
<br />
<b>Day 3 </b>- Saturday, party day, I put off showering until closer to the party. We went to this amazing art festival and the weather was absolutely amazing. I threw on my alternate - <i>gray stripe dress, cropped Free People sweater and comfortable flat boots</i> (see <a href="http://somethingoldmeetssomethingnew.blogspot.com/2012/02/arizona-photo-diary-long-overdue.html">here</a>) for walking, then added a scarf, just in case it got cool. For the party that night I went with my mesh material <i>White House Black Market dress</i> (a traveler's dream - it doesn't wrinkle when you pack it!) and kept it simple with <i>black tights and booties, my diamond necklace</i> (Xmas gift from BF) and added a pop of color with a <i>funky scarf</i>.<br />
<br />
<b>Day 4 </b>- We went and had lunch with Mom's dad on the last full day of the trip. For this outing I went with polyvore Day 3 - my <i><a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/155796468328924028/">Coincidence & Chance sweater-skirt</a>, blue elegantees bow-tie blouse</i>, and, of course, my <i>red Dex boots</i>. Afterwards I gave my mom the elegantees shirt because I thought it fit her better, and let's face it - she gifts <i>me</i> things <u>all the time</u>!<br />
<br />
In the end, I had packed just a few unnecessary items (but I'd rather have the option than not!). For the most part, I got a lot of wear out of what I packed, and utilized layering as it was cooler in the mornings and warmed up during the day. I'll try to snap some pictures soon of exactly what I wore so you can really visualize it! ...Stay tuned...<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><b>About my outfit:</b> I think pleats and lace is an understated-ly sexy combination. When I took these photos the weather was still warm enough to sport bare legs (though the outfit would be just as cute with black tights) and I liked the texture contrast of lace, pleats, and suede. Since there's enough going on with textures, I kept the accessories simple: gold chains. The pop of red in my vintage Coach purse (and occasional red scarf) really pushes this into a "Valentine's Day look" don't you think?</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

Back at home my room is painted burnt orange and my favorite cardigan is mustard (see me style it <a href="http://somethingoldmeetssomethingnew.blogspot.com/2011/11/mixing-prints-for-fall.html">here</a>, <a href="http://somethingoldmeetssomethingnew.blogspot.com/2011/09/rainy-day-woman-or-accidental-mix-of.html">here</a> & <a href="http://somethingoldmeetssomethingnew.blogspot.com/2011/12/mustard-purple.html">here</a>). </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><b>About my outfit: </b> How do <i>you</i> decide what to wear each day?? I usually start with one piece - this time it was this Michael Stars shirt that I've had for a week or two but hadn't worn yet. I paired it with my <a href="http://somethingoldmeetssomethingnew.blogspot.com/2011/05/nautical-stripes.html">Paper, Denim & Cloth jeans</a>...but it just didn't look right. So I switched to my trusty skinny jeans but thought my shirt was way too long. Then I added my new mustard belt (finally - a skinny color belt!) and as soon as I did that, I knew my brick-red boots would pull this whole Fall-colored color-block look together. I finished it off with a vintage set and then fishtail braided pig-tails.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

I finally squeezed one in and then (thanks to Tracy from <a href="http://theclosetshopper.blogspot.com/">The Closet Shopper</a> and Dawn of <a href="http://thriftreveal.blogspot.com/">Suitcase Vignettes</a>) realized none of my photos were visible. So I took that one down and am starting fresh.<br />
<br />
Hello again! You were probably wondering if I ever made it back from <a href="http://somethingoldmeetssomethingnew.blogspot.com/2012/01/help-me-pack.html">my trip to Arizona</a>...Well, I did, and when I returned, I came back to this:<br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Pinned Image" height="299" src="http://media-cdn.pinterest.com/upload/148478118934478575_6tSM8Izy_c.jpg" width="400" /> </div><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Pinned Image" height="299" src="http://media-cdn.pinterest.com/upload/23432860530764235_dKSRPec8_c.jpg" width="400" /> </div><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Pinned Image" height="266" src="http://media-cdn.pinterest.com/upload/26880928995597044_QViM6EKq_c.jpg" width="400" /> </div><br />
But in the meantime, I've been falling asleep dreaming of layered-up looks and pack-able outfits. The trip will be 6 days and 5 nights. After checking the weather, the highs are 60s/70s and the lows mid 40s. I will need a fancy outfit for the party, an outfit or two for the plane ride and, of course, many more in between. My plan is to pack a lot of layered outfits so that no matter what the weather is like, I'll be prepared.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Pinned Image" height="400" src="http://media-cdn.pinterest.com/upload/44262008807349967_HQ3n122l_c.jpg" width="333" /> </div><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Pinned Image" height="266" src="http://media-cdn.pinterest.com/upload/242138917434943374_YocBH0tk_c.jpg" width="400" /> </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">There are a variety of sources out there for help with packing for a trip. I love <a href="http://www.jseverydayfashion.com/2011/11/how-to-pack.html">this post</a> by J's Everyday Fashion, and I've even done a packing for a (short) trip post of my own in <a href="http://somethingoldmeetssomethingnew.blogspot.com/2011/09/how-to-pack-for-trip-part-1.html">part 1</a> & <a href="http://somethingoldmeetssomethingnew.blogspot.com/2011/09/how-to-pack-for-trip-part-2.html">part 2</a>, and of course Kendi's <a href="http://kendieveryday.blogspot.com/p/30-for-30-remixes.html">30x30 challenge</a> could serve as packing-inspiration (see <a href="https://2994504344944593469-a-1802744773732722657-s-sites.googlegroups.com/site/kendilea/ftp/Fall-2010-Remix.jpg?attachauth=ANoY7coCpsnTOA4cn9OjPEsJOw_q46cXGfny5telsOAW0_-vhzzEOOUult1GSMKTOKcKE6F9NRLF7r7gPiLQ26T23o-9CN8dPV3zBqm62ZCZeeukLNNnGqEP-37LgrwWsT_8Of6FhEWxsW455AArww2FWqfmILm3xKiWWEAnLFQswclvpT6HcODtqkRLtsVd8mhcROyxVr1VA8YC7ab3f9hiNII6vV3TIA%3D%3D&attredirects=1">Fall</a>, <a href="https://2994504344944593469-a-1802744773732722657-s-sites.googlegroups.com/site/kendilea/ftp/Winter-2011-Remix.jpg?attachauth=ANoY7cqfd2D0Ch3_8FfAVyt4otJh9Ph2Qc54RxsTXsKUhUcZsyYTo-h6cE9rhxkg_r1g8WdHPt_9bzi418o2lLMR64bVVX8fycJCLiwWB5gw8YHa0zPfpydKuco4UlpUwCk-qXftBP8DNw0kasuZzVatSgDxEUJBsLiZoV2VlZX4AHdUEchQu_AL54PoIBSGttBV-KVetmXVozFtwSlX82TVRKHxw-w8HQ%3D%3D&attredirects=1">Winter</a>, <a href="https://2994504344944593469-a-1802744773732722657-s-sites.googlegroups.com/site/kendilea/ftp/Spring-2010-Remix.jpg?attachauth=ANoY7crnC_HMM2peIWTwATKdkjhOuyFcDDDa65qS3zp8J_aANxtNOYBBznMEOzoaJy5L0eBZ7k-d4c6RMM_YmNXxUjBEST4YXinptgg9-Z09LNtH6AaG_r6YMO74v-p0pPSlHrzCS_Dv6wr7clloM4ISYnb-13pfMTa-iUIYsj7KnhBgwX1fXKiWjIuD82jurTnNgkYIXBIm6ah7OM0MG34KyeLhaacNEA%3D%3D&attredirects=1">Spring</a> and <a href="https://2994504344944593469-a-1802744773732722657-s-sites.googlegroups.com/site/kendilea/ftp/Summer-2010-Remix.jpg?attachauth=ANoY7cpCfaTFBZGubKcujc8mStq0e2NRXdNCJ7V4fa_gwpo2pBd_hrOFyDF86MiafLSHKaG2Vbe-ZKg8NfDAklIOI5PwO3116nVwlR0ZHw2zKoKit5dRrBhJaoBMg9gU95KTkEspR-7Yb4TjxnKH9bNTNcrhom--mQvv5vwIoVPhnVF6LNEqrSaaJDAXP3Ff-54uCEy5BzNcx7Gvm3yEUFuGEGb1Xo_jLA%3D%3D&attredirects=1">Summer</a>). Can you believe it's <b>2012</b>?!? I most certainly cannot. I <strike>unintentionally</strike> gave myself a 2 week blog hiatus and it was much needed.<br />
<br />
There has been a lot on my mind during those weeks <strike>and more</strike>. I have been re-thinking my job/trying to find a career; deciding to move to Colorado and then changing our minds and then re-thinking the change-of-mind; and all the while balancing my current job, including moving locations and expanding, as well as my online job and haven't actually taken any pictures in at least these 2 weeks! I'm also trying to balance this blog, which was created as something fun to do in my spare time, and not letting it turn into work.<br />
<br />
That said, I have some resolutions for the new year:<br />
<br />
<ol><li><b>Be more active</b> - get outside and do more things, work out and exercise at least 3 times a week</li>
<li><b>Learn to cook</b> - for my boyfriend and for myself - experiment more in the kitchen and learn from the mistakes</li>
<li><b>Find some time to read</b> - pick up a book (not just blogs or magazines) and read it from start to finish</li>
<li><b>Practice Spanish</b> - keep it fresh for a new job and also just because it's a good skill to have</li>
<li><b>Be comfortable being myself</b> - perhaps the most important of all - stop trying to make everyone happy and stay true to myself, don't stress out, don't try to juggle too many things, be secure and confident in all aspects of life including BF time, family time, blogging, fashion and future. Be happy, stay positive - you only live once!</li>
</ol><div><br />
</div><div>Annnnd, since I'm behind on photo-taking, here are some candid shots of my holiday fun:</div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

I don't want to stress about outfit photos either - I'll take them when I can, and I'll be posting a lot more inspirational and photo-centric posts. Thank you to everyone for reading, supporting, and generally providing a much needed outlet for my thoughts :-).</div><div><br />

'Tis the season, right? I'm so excited to have a couple days off this Christmas, so I'll be going home, visiting with family, eating good food, and most importantly relaxing! I had something else planned for today but since I'm short on time I'll leave you with some recent holiday pictures:<br />
<br />
Our Christmas party for the consignment shop was last night at, delicious thai food restaurant, Indochine. I went straight from work so I just wore what I had on - vintage wool skirt, Free People thermal with my favorite mustard cardigan on top and, of course, my amazing red boots.<br />

Well, we're having some funky December weather here at the beach, so I decided to pull Picasso out again, and this time wear him as a belt with a similar color palette:<br />

<strong>About my outfit:</strong> I wanted to find another way to wear <a href="http://somethingoldmeetssomethingnew.blogspot.com/2011/10/scarf-inspired.html">this scarf</a> and I thought the colors were displayed beautifully as a belt! I paired it with the same olive top, but this time paired it with black and tan. The weather is warm enough to go bare-legs, showing off my two-tone wedges. The necklace was my birthday present - it's from the turn of the 19th century and made out of watch chains - how cool! Anyway, the necklace ties in the black and then I finished the look off with my trusty D&B satchel-bag.<br />

So, "8" I said. Her point was just to pick on her friend for buying her 28th pair. But they liked the idea of white skinny jeans and asked if I still wear them now. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><b>About my outfit:</b> I combined a few of my favorite things at the moment in this outfit: I layered a paper-thin sweater over a checkered button-down (have you seen enough of this yet?) and juxtaposed long and short by pairing the layered top with shorts on the bottom. Keeping the palette neutral, I went with the closest thing to nude wedges I have so as to elongate my legs and then added gold accessories that correspond with the short's belt buckle. My new red Coach purse really makes this an all-American look and the scarf ties it all together.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><b>About my outfit:</b> The weatherman told me the high for the next couple of days will be in the lower 70s with a chance of rain. This kind of prediction calls for my <a href="http://somethingoldmeetssomethingnew.blogspot.com/2011/09/orange-sherbet.html">Fall Formula</a> - skirt/dress + sweater, rain-friendly boots and <a href="http://somethingoldmeetssomethingnew.blogspot.com/2011/11/my-style.html">lots of layers</a>. I started out with a simple cotton dress and then belted my sweater over it for extra warmth/comfort. My boots are not real leather so I feel safe wearing them in the rain. I finished the look off with a chunky chain-link necklace and then added some color with my scarf, which tied in the colors in my purse and boots! Oh, and this milk-maid braid is my go-to <a href="http://somethingoldmeetssomethingnew.blogspot.com/2011/07/rainy-day-frida-hair.html">"chance of rain" hairstyle</a> - no point in fixing your hair if it's just going to get rained on, if you ask me :)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

I wore this before the cold front came through (though it's supposed to warm up this week again) but I can't wait for Winter to really settle in because I plan on wearing this (and more like this) with opaque tights!<br />
