The Best Form of Flattery: 3rd edition: Late Afternoon

The Best Form of Flattery series is all about finding inspiration from a variety of sources.  Today's inspiration photo came from Liz, the blogger behind Late Afternoon.  Here's what I came up with:
(new with tags) H&M skirt - FC ($8)
Miley Max long sleeve tee - FC ($6)
We Who See booties - FC ($16)
Cole Haan purse - "thrifted" w/Mom, Hilton Head consignment ($60)
Vintage scarf - gifted from long ago; F21 sunglasses ($5)
Vintage necklace, thrifted w/Mom ($3); Chain necklace, FC@MJ ($6)

I took the inspiration to pair a purple skirt with stripes, add a scarf to my purse, and double up on my necklaces from this Late Afternoon look:

About my outfit:  I had the choice between my purple skirt or a maxi skirt to pair with stripes for this inspired outfit.  I ultimately decided on my brand new h&m skirt because I had already paired a maxi with stripes in this outfit post.  Originally I wanted to knot my navy/white stripe tank but since the weather has gotten pretty chilly, I went with a similar-color-scheme striped long sleeve tee.  I kept my shoes black and added tights for extra warmth.  I added another similar-color scarf to my bag for an extra touch and then doubled up on my necklaces in order to add some vintage to the outfit.

I really have been enjoying this series, but I have to admit:  I didn't like the look that I came up with at all this time.  First, the skirt's zipper broke when I was stepping into it with my booties already on.  Since I didn't have anything else planned, I just pinned it and went ahead to take the pictures.  Second, I really think there is too much going on, all at once, in my look.  I like some of the pieces (like the scarf+purse and the double-necklace) separately and would most likely try them again...but in a more "toned-down" outfit.  But, you live you learn, right?  What do you guys think?  Did you come up with something good this time?

Just follow the link below to add your own Late-Afternoon inspired look, and be sure to check back next week for another link-up as well as who will be inspiring us next...Can't wait to see what you guys came up with!  And remember, the link will be open for one full week (until next Sunday) so you have plenty of time if you'd like to participate.

The Best Form of Flattery: 4th edition: Pinterest

For the next edition of the Best Form of Flattery series, I was looking at a couple of looks on pinterest.  I noticed that the two I kept coming back to had a similar theme and so, rather than just choosing one, I'm giving you the option of either of these two pinterest-found looks to use as inspiration!

So, let's see what you can come up with and how you can be inspired by either one (or both) of these!  Remember, the Best Form of Flattery does not have to be an exact rendition of the picture (though it can be), you can break it down and be inspired by any piece of it, whether it be the color combination, the styling, or even just one accessory that really appeals to you...the possibilities are endless!

AND, I use pinterest as a constant source of inspiration, a portable inspiration board, and an organizational collection holder.  Find me on pinterest here and if you'd like to add any pins to the Best Form of Flattery board, please let me know your own pinterest link so that I can add you as a contributor.  I'd love to turn the Best Form of Flattery board into a communal source of inspiration for us all!!!

I think you did a great job with the inspiration. Your striped shirt is great with the skirt! I like the way you tied it. It's not too bold, but I like bold and bright :)

I will be linking up on Tuesday for this edition. The next link up is great! I love the all neutrals theme, with the pop of color with the shoes. That will be fun!

well, i really like your outfit, and i like the colors, too (who sayd you can't be colorful in fall?!), but in know what you mean about living and learning outfit-wise; sometimes i think i really love something, then i see the outfit in pictures and discover i don't love it so much after all!

and the h&m skirt - i'm jealous! unfortunately we don't have an h&m around here, so the things i have from there have been thrifted (which means easy on my wallet), but i could go crazy in an h&m store!

I love that colour skirt. It look goregous on you. I like the concept of this series too, taking inspiration for other outfits you've seen. I always think if I want to do that I should match perfectly, but really, making it your own is so much better.

You look great. I love love love that skirt on you. But the way you styled it is what makes it amazing. Are you supposed to always look better than the inspiration? MWAH!! Cuz you nail it every time.

I might be interested in those gloves you were talking about. Can you email me how much they are? Oh, and what color?
