Made Well

When I checked my email this morning I saw a t-shirt from the Alexa Chung for Madewell collection...
Vintage Calvin Klein skirt - thrifted, BB ($3)
F21 tunic - FC ($7)
Pink Studio wedges - FC ($12)
Vintage belt - STA ($5)
Vintage gold necklace - FC; Vintage pearls - STA
Vintage Louis Vuitton - hand-me-down from Mom

It reminded me of this photo I have under my "Inspiration" folder on my desktop and on my "Inspiration" board on pinterest of an ad: Alexa Chung for Madewell:
I show you this picture so you can see where the inspiration for this outfit came from and, looking at them right next to each other, I see that my rendition pales in comparison...but that's to be expected, right?

Anyway, about my outfit: there is A LOT going on!  I knew I wanted to wear my menswear-inspired skirt because I haven't worn it in a while and, seeing the Alexa Chung for Madewell ad, I knew stripes would be the perfect pairing.  Since the skirt feels like a pair of men's khakis to me, I always try to feminize it.  This time I doubled up on necklaces with gold and pearls.  And, of course, the bow-back shirt adds a feminine touch, in addition to the braid.
This was my first time trying out the fishtail braid and I really loved it!  What do you guys think??

I've never been to a Madewell and we rarely get that brand at the shop, but the celebrities seem to love their denim and basic t-shirts.  Every fashionista loves Alexa Chung's uniquely-stylish-ways; I'm sure the collection will be cute and quirky, just like her!  Coming online and to stores September 22, you can shop early for the exclusive t-shirt (straight from Alexa's sketchbook) here.

How do you get inspired?  What is inspiring you today?

Well first of all your top top is adorable with the bow on the back. It's very cool how you modernized this skirt too. It could be very matronly with the length, but you really did a great job styling it. The shoes, belt and jewelry were perfect touches! Great job :)
