Tie-Dye all Over

Instead of pining for Fall I'm embracing what I've got right now: gorgeous, end-of-summer days!  As you guys probably already know, I just love maxi skirts and dresses...
Double Zero dress - gift from Mom via Return Passage
Jeffery Campbell wedges - FC ($18)
Vintage orange purse - FC ($10)
Statement earrings - gift from Camber via World Market
Layered friendship bracelets

This maxi dress makes enough of a statement on its own that you really don't have to add to much to it.  I just played up the color by adding a pop of orange with my new vintage bag and, of course, my favorite layered friendship bracelets tie all the colors together.  Because of the plunging neckline, my bare neck really wanted a necklace hanging in that space.  Instead I stepped outside of my comfort zone and opted for statement earrings.  And the long length is perfect for my platform Jeffrey Campbells.  I played around with knotting one side of the dress hem and really liked that look, what do you think?  I felt like I was channeling a little bit of 70s glamour with the long dress, stacked wedges and big earrings!

Maxi dresses are absolutely perfect for "transitional wear" because the length keeps your legs warm and they are easy to use as a base for layering!  Here are some fun ways to layer your maxi:
  • layer a tee on top
  • tie your button down in front
  • throw on an oversized sweater
  • add a colorful cardigan and belt it
  • add a punky leather (-esque) jacket
  • add a denim jacket

I'm so excited to try out some of these ideas as the weather cools off!  Here's my only problem (for this specific dress):  I feel like the halter neckline will make it difficult to actually layer any of the aforementioned pieces on top.  Halters have always been a purely summer staple for me.  So, what do you guys think?  Can you transition your halters into Fall?

Can you transition halter tops into cooler weather by layering?  Can you layer over a halter neckline?  If any of you have experience with this, please post!  I'd love to see!

AND...  How would you transition a maxi dress into Fall/Winter?

I love maxi dresses and skirts! I tried on a maxi dress at Target and a maxi skirt at Old Navy recently, but didn't end up getting either of them. I just can't justify the money when I can't really find a way to work them into my professional wardrobe.

What a stunning maxi! Love it paired with the purse and shoes :)

We did a remix of the maxi dress to transition into fall, but we agree, probably hard to layer over a halter.
